Pancare Foundation
Pancare Foundation is Australia’s not-for-profit pancreatic and upper gastrointestinal cancer organisation. Our purpose is to increase survival and provide specialised support to people affected by these devastating low-survival cancers.
Tragically, every year over 11,000 Australians are diagnosed with an upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, and more than 8,000 Australians die. Early detection is complex and difficult, so treatment options are limited.
Upper GI cancers include pancreatic, liver, biliary, oesophageal and stomach. Known as “silent killers”, upper GI cancers are extremely aggressive, sadly most people die – and the voices of future advocates are rare. A lack of awareness and funding has translated to almost zero progress in decades. Families are devastated. Many patients tell us they feel that they simply “got the wrong cancer”.
Founded in 2011 by world-renowned Melbourne surgeon Dr. Mehrdad Nikfarjam, Pancare Foundation is a leading voice for those affected by pancreatic and upper GI cancers to improve, extend and save lives through:
- Delivering targeted education and awareness programs
- Growing investment into a range of world-leading research projects
- Providing equitable access to specialised patient & carer support via PanSupport
As Pancare approaches its 10-year anniversary this year, we are absolutely focused on uniting our community and accelerating change as we strive towards our 2030 vision of doubling survival rates.
