Street Work
Street Work’s purpose is to support vulnerable young people – aged 11 to 18 – to turn their lives around. Our one-on-one mentoring and early intervention and prevention program reduces risk-taking behavior and empowers young people to set goals and to build a positive future.
What We Do
Street Work is a non-denominational, for-purpose, community organisation working with ‘at risk’ young people affected by crime, mental health issues, violence, destructive relationships, social isolation, homelessness, those disengaged from school or with poor employment opportunities and those impacted by alcohol and substance abuse, to turn their lives around.
At Street Work we seek to give ‘at risk’ young people the same opportunities as their peers .. that is to grow, to achieve their dreams, and to develop as a person with high self-esteem.
Vulnerable young people are often challenged by one or a combination of risk factors:
- youth crime
- mental health concerns including anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal ideation
- sleeping rough and youth homelessness
- disengagement from school and education
- social isolation and poor physical health
- alcohol and substance misuse
Our flagship program is a one-on-one mentoring which we call KickStart, which aims to break the cycle of destructive behaviours and help them turn their lives around.
Life changing and community saving
PwC independently assesses the social impact of StreetWork. PwC’s research highlights that over 85% of StreetWork’s program participants graduate and achieve their goals and that for every $1 invested in Street Work there’s a $16 return to the community.
Mission:
At StreetWork we seek to give at-risk youth the same opportunities as their peers. To grow, to achieve their dreams, and to develop as a person with high self-esteem.
We provide one-on-one mentoring in a bid to break the cycle of destructive influences and behaviours and help them turn their lives around.
Our mentoring approach is our main asset, but our expertise in case management, our large base of dedicated volunteers and the strategic location of our branches are also critical to our success.
We currently focus our efforts on supporting the communities in Sydney’s north, with branches on the North Shore and Northern Beaches. But we have plans to expand even further.
